This book is the second in this series that I have read. I was not disappointed. It is excellent as was the first.
After reading the first of this series I was anxious to see where the author would take this book. The tragedy of the treatment of the Native Americans by the whites has been documented innumerable times but the story that is woven around the facts is compelling and heart wrenching. I appreciated the parallels drawn between the spiritual teachings of the two cultures as it lends a dignity to the belief system of
"Wakanisha."
The time I spent reading this book and the, first book was well spent. The native people of America were so horribly treated and abused by people who came here to escape social injustice themselves. These books should be read by anyone interested in history and native American teachings.
Growing up in western Kansas, as I read this book I was taken back to Kansas and the places I have been. As the story unfolded, I traveled the same roads as a the book. From Fort Larned to Perceville, my mother's birthplace, to Garden City, into Colorado and Fort Laramie. The story will take you back and bring you forward. It brings to light the story and the blight of the American Indian in the second half of the 1800s. It is the story of the strength of family.
